This beautiful doll is marked on the back of her head: Made in Germany, 128, 8. It is unknown who made her. Ketsner made a #128 doll but it was a closed mouth pouty. Herman Steiner made a #128 but it was a character face doll, Kammer & Reinhardt’s #128 was a baby doll. This lovely doll is none of these things. She looks French because she was made to compete in the US French doll market. She has a professional repair on the left side of her head in front of the ear. The ear lobe may have been repaired also but I’m not sure. There is a tight hairline repair on her forehead that does not show on the actual doll but her face is obviously all factory original. I only saw the hairline when I looked at the photos. She has dark brown feathered eyebrows, original set brown glass eyes with fine lashes painted all around and an open mouth with five set teeth. She has pierced ears with replaced “pearl” earrings. The repair on the side of her head doesn’t show under the wig. She’s on her original straight wrist French body. Sonneburg dolls are often found on French bodies. This dolls body is in great condition, I think it was repainted sometime in the past. I looks to be a good job, there are no cracks or lifting paint. Her slip and silk dress are antique and could be original. She wears open knit knee socks and nice old (not antique) side button shoes. Her head is stuffed with tissue paper and her replaced wig is simply pinned to the styrofoam pate. She’s ready to display. The doll stand is not included. Thank you for looking at my sale.
