This piece was made for the safe storage and transport of fine ladies’ hats, likely for train or sea travel – and possibly for a passenger traveling through the historic port city of Bremen, Germany. Sturdy fiberboard structure covered in black coated cloth or early faux leather. Brass hardware latches (one detached but present). Original carrying handle with aged patina and initials A. Likely the owner’s. Lined in original floral blue and white calico cotton fabric. Elasticized interior pocket for securing delicate accessories or feathers.
