Item: ANTIQUE GERMAN BOUND JOURNALS. Update: May 13, 2021. I only wish I didn’t have to pay so much for it as well so I could pass the savings on. I have updated the photos today to show some different parts of the book. I have many more photos though and would be happy to show more. The plate illustrations are beautiful and I’d love to anyone interested more of them!! Even if this little treasure was missing its covers it would still be worth owning for the plates alone. They are totally mind blowing in precise detail with the finest of etched lines. A big problem I have is deciphering the antique calligraphy writing. There are many letters I simply can’t tell what they are. So, please look at my photos and ask for more if there is anything u need to see. Description: For Sale is a Hardbound Collection of {50} Volumes from 1876 of “Die Gartenlaube Illustriertes Familienblatt” by Ernst Keil. This Translates to The Garden Arbor Illustrated Journal and is 882 Pages Long. Basically these are Weekly issued German Magazine Back Issues which have been bound together in a Hardcover Book. There are AMAZING Plate Illustrations, Daily Life Stories and German History. It was truly Germany’s First Crossover from a Newspaper to a Magazine. This Book measures 12 1/2″T x 10″W x 2 1/2D and Weighs 6.7 Pounds. Ernst Victor Keil was a German bookseller, journalist, editor and publisher. His early publications promoted liberal views and satirized famous politicians leading up to the German revolutions of 1848-49. Born : December 6, 1816, Bad Langensalza. Died : March 23, 1878, Leipzig. Condition: On a scale of 1 – 10 (Ten being New in Package Only), I can confidently grade this item’s condition to be a solid 6. Overall and Especially for being over 140 Years Old, this Rare Collectible Book is in ” Fair – Good” Condiiton. This book is 100% Complete but does have some loose pages in the very beginning {See Photo#7}. About 4-5 pages max are separated from the binding. The pages have uniformly discolored and there is some sporadic brittleness mainly to the edges. Some of those page edges have tiny tears and some of those tears have been discreetly taped with invisible tape to prevent them from getting bigger. Approximately in 5 spots. This book like many antique books should be handled gently because honestly, each time it is opened it is likely a little piece may break away if not handled with respect. The paper used originally was not of the highest quality such as the paper used in newspapers. So, it is completely normal that for being as old as it is, there is going to be some wear and dryness. The Exterior Covers also have much wear but are still attached quite well fortunately. My photos are an accurate depiction of this item’s TRUE Condition. I think that is only fair. HUNDREDS OF AMAZING CHAIRS AND OTHER GREAT ITEMS. For sale here is this fantastic vintage East German 1970s Bartholomew cocktail Armchair. This fantastic looking mid century chair was made in East Germany sometime in the 1970s. We bought them in Leipzig last month. This very stylish chair is typical of the style and design from this post-war East German era of the 1970s. The shape of the back flaring out from the bottom towards the top is the style known as a Bartholomew chair. It is a classic cocktail chair design with arms. I personally think that this model of chair is the most comfortable chair that I sell. The colour of the wood is a nice warm colour and matches the legs all of the wood is in good condition. The fabric is all original and a soft Pink velvet type of fabric. The close-up picture of the material is a good representation of the colour. You can see from the depth of the seat that there is a large spring mechanism in the seat. Which makes for a very comfortable chair. They are a fantastic looking pair of mid century chairs. Another nice design details is the Barcelona leg, they are splayed outwards, understated. But a really effective way of lightening the whole chair. This style of chair are very fashionable at the moment. Chairs from this period like these have become something of a style icon. As they are at the moment, they are in fantastic and original condition they have not been restored in any way. The frames are very strong and sturdy and there is no damage to the main structure of the chairs, no woodworm, no wobbly arms or legs. All of the wood is in good condition. The fabric is in ok and clean condition they have been cleaned. There are a couple of tiny patches on the right hand side panel which look like they might have been slightly more intense. It is not come right through to create holes but some of the pile is missing. This has been taken into consideration when pricing. Finally I will add that they are very, very comfortable. The seat is sprung but firm and the shape of the back is very supportive. We live in Scarborough but my warehouse is in Cambridge I know, confusing!! Back of perfect bisque head incised H 1/2. Brown sleep eyes are in their original plaster set. No cracks, chips or hairlines to head or shoulder plate. Original mohair wig and original plaster pate. Kid body is also marked 7 and Germany – see photo of inside of head. The kid body has lower bisque arms. Fingers on both hands are perfect but there is a glued crack on left elbow – see photo. Clothing inventory which includes factory and mother made: Original: Pink dress with gray hat trimmed with pink, underwear, shoes and stockings, white dress and long white nightgown or baby dress. The red sailor dress looks mother-made. This came out of a resale shop in Wisconsin and it was fresh out of the cedar chest.
