Oh so beautiful and delicate, this antique German bun head china head doll was manufactured in the 1840’s. She stands 9 tall. Has original muslin cloth body with antique wooden limbs. Feels like stuffed with sawdust. Has deep shoulder plate of the early dolls. Has one hole in back and two in front. There are a couple of tiny grey dots from the kiln on the front of her shoulder plate. Wonderful hairdo with long hair covering ears on both sides pulled into a bun in back. The bun has a few hair rubs on top. There are little bumps all around the bun with a circle in the center. She has wonderfully sculpted facial features for a doll so small, especially her nose, which has two tiny red dots at the nostrils. Colbalt blue eyes are delicately painted underneath her black eyebrows. She has red lips and blushed cheeks. Her satin skirt and chiffon blouse look to be later. There is a silk ribbon around her waist. The skirt has antique lace with silk ribbon running through. There is a light brown stain on the front of the skirt that is hardly noticeable. A picture is worth 1000 words, the sound is worth them all. This is truly a piece of history. It has been identified as a mid 1800s German factory cello by a professional appraiser. It has a full scale length; but unique with a 7/8 sized body (perfect for a female player) or someone who likes the timbre and tone of a smaller body. Because of its age, it had a big restore job done to the top by a local professional repair person. It was a 2,000 dollar restoration. The last 3 photos are of the restoration process. That sound is what makes it, its unique and simply cannot be compared to new cellos or even older ones, it’s a special instrument.
