Paint is chipping, more will fall off. I believe it is missing a few parts. And I believe the knob on top has been replaced. It is also loose. I have never had the lid off.

Up for sale is a rare antique 19th-century Liebreich’s ophthalmoscope, an early medical instrument designed for examination of the interior of the eye. This classic ophthalmological instrument is based on the design developed by German ophthalmologist Richard Liebreich during the second half of the 19th century. The instrument features a circular reflecting mirror with a central viewing aperture and an adjustable hinged magnifying lens mounted in front. It is fitted with its original long black handle with metal collar. The ophthalmoscope comes in its original fitted presentation/storage case, lined with velvet and marked on the lid Liebreich’s Ophthalmoscope. ” Inside the case is the original retailer’s label “Albert Klein – Gand (Ghent, Belgium). The instrument is in very good antique condition considering its age, showing normal signs of use and oxidation consistent with a 19th-century medical instrument. The mirror, hinged lens and handle are preserved. The case shows expected age-related wear but remains attractive and displays the instrument beautifully. A very interesting early piece of ophthalmology and medical history, perfect for a collection of antique surgical, optical or scientific instruments. Found at an estate sale in Belgium. An authentic German porcelain match holder figurine, Mold No. 470, manufactured by the Limbach Porcelain Factory (Thuringia), featuring a hand-painted underglaze blue intertwined LG monogram, mid-19th century. ” The “Three Bags Design: The three bags or sacks surrounding the boy serve a functional purpose. Typically, one large open sack behind or beside the boy was used as a cigarette holder, one was a match holder, while the textured surfaces of the bags or the base acted as a match striker to light friction matches. The Painting Style: The “white with pink blush splash” refers to the classic hand-painted decoration technique applied to German bisque porcelain. The Subject Matter: Whimsical or slightly naughty children-such as a young boy secretly smoking a giant cigar or a pipe-were incredibly popular, humorous themes during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The Letters: The “L” stands for Limbach, and the “G” stands for Greiner (Gotthelf Greiner, the factory’s founder). The Layout: The mark typically features a distinct diamond outline (sometimes crossed or stylized) with the cursive or block letters L and G nestled neatly inside or alongside the borders. It was traditionally painted by hand in a rich underglaze cobalt blue before the piece went into the kiln. Production Era: While the factory used various marks over its lifespan (including crossed L’s and clover leaves), this specific intertwined monogram layout represents Johann Gotthelf Greiner (the factory’s founder) and dates the figurine to the late 18th century to the mid-19th century (circa 1780s-1840s). Amazing for any collector or religious history connoisseur! Each book is large (13″x10″x2) and packed with history, pictures, and beautiful illustrations. Could not capture its full beauty in the picture qty allowed. Written in German, but don’t need to understand German to enjoy the beautiful art within the book. Probably does help though. Books were published roughly around 1900 and are in great shape for their age. No binding or page issues. Books have general wear and minor discolorations, but no major issues. See pictures and let me know any questions.
