A beautifully timeworn early German papier-mâché Easter rabbit, hand-formed and hand-painted, featuring expressive soulful beady little eyes and a wonderfully sculptural silhouette. Pieces like this were traditionally created for Easter celebrations, candy displays, and seasonal décor, and were never meant to survive – making surviving examples especially desirable today. This baby bunny standing shows visible brushwork, gentle paint wear, and surface texture that speak to its age and handmade origins. For your consideration is a delightful antique 24 German character baby doll by Simon & Halbig, Kammer Reinhardt. Her bisque head was light checked and no issues were found. It is marked “122”. As seen in the photos. She has blue glass sleep eyes, dimples, an open mouth with two teeth, and a platinum blond mohair wig. Her composition body has all fingers and toes, and some crazing, paint touch ups, possible repainting- not sure, and typical wear as expected. See photos for details. Her stringing seems fine. The baby is dressed in a long white cotton dress and slip, white cotton bloomers, vintage baby stockings, and a lovely lace baby bonnet. Unfortunately, this beautiful, hard-to-find doll is damaged. There is a missing piece to the back of her shoulder plate. The doll has no other damage. Some paint wear is present on the back of the head. The shoulder plate is attached to an antique cloth body filled with horse hair. The arms show wear, which is visible in the photos. There are also some repairs to the body. The pantaloons are sewn at the back and were not removed, but the lower part of the body appears to be in good shape. The doll is dressed as shown. There are some stains to the stockings. Her beautiful antique dress shows some repairs and stains, but overall remains in presentable condition. Please refer to the pictures for more details. No stand is included.
