This lovely little piece is a primitive, hand made hand painted Art Deco Bunny Easter cart candy container. The piece has lots of aged patina – the antique look things get over time. It is a beautiful little primitive piece – made by hand, and and hand painted. It has it’s two little original tin metal wheels on the back and one on the front. The front doesn’t have 2 wheels – I don’t believe it ever did. It stands really well, and there are no holes where there would have been wheels. There is crackling to the finish on the egg, and very tiny rubs and scratches, and there are splinters of wood missing on one side. Photos describe that best. It has a little spun cotton chick on a bed of grass in the back that I believe are original. The grass looks to be made from glassine – a waxed translucent paper that was used in this era before cellophane. The little chick displays well, but only has 1 eye. His feet are wire wrapped in paper. The little candy container is marked Germany. It is about 6 inches long. This container has a matching friend – a chick pulling an egg cart, also with a chick, and with grass, and also marked Germany. I have the chick cart in another listing. This listing is for an all original, antique German candy container for Easter. At least, it says Happy Easter in German. BUT, the little boy Elf looks like he is on leave from Santa’s workshop, with his red boots, hat and jacket. His pants are plaid, and may have originally been red, but now are pink. He has a little woven reed basket that is in good condition. These little baskets very often are broken over time. He even has his original wood shaving excelsior in the basket, which would have held jelly beans, or other tiny candies. Th little cart has two wood wheels on the back, and one on the front. The wheels are really perfect! The little duck is hand painted, and the paint is very slightly faded. The boy’s face is starting to show it’s age, with a bit of crackling to the finish. He is made from wire, with clothes over the wire. Oh my, what scary hands! They are composition over wire and are intact, but kinda long and slightly creepy. Overall, the set is a bit creepy, like ALL the antique German pieces. This set comes from the Erzgebirge region of Germany, home to the finest toy and ornament makers in the world. The region, during WWII, was divided into East and West. Before and after, pieces are just marked Germany. This piece was made pre-WWII. Cute wooly sheep driver pulling a wooden tin wheeled cart with tiny wooly sheep rider. Sheep have composition faces, stick legs, and paper collars. Cart is red painted wood with natural colored dowels. Long handles and red tin/metal wheels. Sheep have vintage soiling, paint chips on faces/ears/hoofs. Baby has Germany on collar, a loose neck, and a few loose legs. He still stands fine. Cart has a repair on left side and glue residue. One loose dowel on back. Germany stamped on bottom. Pin/nail holes on ends of handles but no pins/nails found. Size as pictured is 7 L. Cart is 6 1/4″ L x 2″ W x 2 1/4 H. Sheep are 2 1/2′ H x 2″ L and 3″ H x 3 L.
