Vintage Rose O’neill Wilson Kewpie Child’s Tea Set. Teapot, sugar bowl, creamer, 4 teacups and 4 saucers. Made in Germany circa 1930s. My Uncle, Army Officer stationed in Germany, sent it to me in approximately 1943. Lid on teapot was cracked & repaired. This pretty little machine is beautifully painted/embossed with either gold paint or gold leaf. It is covered in greasy dusty grime but it has only been lightly wiped thus fa until I can find out how to clean it without damaging the paintwork. It is slightly less filthy than when I picked it up but it’s very apparent that it will look fantastic when it is properly cleaned. Not sure it it shows through on the pics but the gold really dazzles in the right light against the black body. The sewing machine wheel turns and the gadget for moving the cloth seems to be working OK but I don’t think the needle part of the apparatus is working (there’s no needle). The upper cylindrical link doesn’t turn – which I presume is the driving mechanism. I think it’s German. This one has a name on it but I can’t quite make it out. It could be Stichall or Stuchall – or variants of the above. I hope it will be clearer when it is properly cleaned. It is 8″ wide (20cms) by 5″ deep by 7.5 tall. It weighs two kilos.
