Lovely antique German bisque head baby doll by Hertel Schwab…. Wonderful facial expression on this solid dome head.. Original sleep eyes retain original eyelid paint/wax…. Original paper mache’ body retains 100% original paint and patina with red outlining between the fingers and toes…. Body has light overall soiling, more-so on the lower arms and hands which were not protected by clothing…. NOTE: There is what appears to be a flake along the socket edge, as shown in the last three photos, however this is a factory defect, not damage, as the flesh-colored paint runs over the edge…. From a non-smoking and pet-free home…. Please study all photos, feel free to ask questions, and be sure to check out my other interesting antique auctions! Lovely old baby doll! The bisque appears to be in a good condition, no damage to the head. There is a small production mold defect to the right side of the head. The body shows typical signs of wear, including some chipped fingers. Stringing is not the best, but it is not loose. The boy is dressed as shown on the photos. Small holes to the underwear and one of the booties. Please refer to the pictures for more details.

The doll is gorgeous and is unique looking. She is 14.5 tall. She has one piece bisque shoulder head that is marked 7. Her eyes are stationary. There are small production defects to the head, including a tiny thin production kiln crack to the left side of the nose.

Antique German 949 SIMON & HALBIG Doll 17 Closed Mouth Solid Dome. This stunning and rare 17-inch Simon Halbig doll comes straight from the original owner. The 949 mold number is one of the most sought after Simon Halbig dolls. She has a solid dome head, swivel neck on bisque shoulder plate. She has haunting brown paper weight eyes and a closed mouth. She has pierced ears. She has a kid body and bisque lower arms. Her left lower arm is replaced. Her kid body is structurally sound and in quite good condition, except for dinginess on her arms (see photos). I have examined her carefully, and her bisque head and bisque shoulder plate are free of cracks and repairs, except for a small hairline that extends from the bottom of the socket about half an inch upward (see photo). The hairline does not fluouresce under a black light, but is slightly visible by shining a regular light into her head. Her clothing is all original as well. The doll belonged to a friend of mine whose mother received it as a child. Her aunt sewed all the clothing for the doll. There is a small tear in the outer dress near the front seam. Her wig is replaced with an appropriate mohair wig that suits her nicely. She is just an exquisite and rare doll! Tracking information can be viewed on the Order Detail page. We bring you a very pretty, but very old doll: A Kling #172, closed mouth, solid-dome, shoulder head doll, on an antique, all leather body, that is not original to the doll, according to the former owner. The body is in fairly good shape, although the fingers on the left hand are beginning the spring and may need some tending-to. We took a few stitches to keep the damage at bay while she was being dressed and stored. Overall, the body is in great shape and very stable. The bisque solid dome head is free of any cracks, chips, and hairlines. She has an absolutely beautiful face, with a long blond mohair wig that has a bit of a kinky texture to it. Her eyes are large for her face and they are lovely blue. She was originally dressed in a very plain muslin gown but we decided, that since that was not her original dress anyway, we would spiff up her image. We selected this creamy batiste dress that sports a detachable collar that is trimmed in lace, top and bottom edges, full, puffed sleeves, also laced trimmed. The dress is high waisted, and flat lace trims above the hemline. A bonnet of the same cream bastiste and trimmed on the outer edges with lace, frames her pretty face. A wide sash in a medium color of blue, encircles her waist and trails down the sides of her bonnet. Fron shot of her from the back, you can see that you may tie the sash in a bow, if desired, or you could just just wrap one end over the other for a differ look. As a final touch: jewelry. She wears pearl earrings and a tiny pin in front in the shape of a gold bow with a pearl drop in the middle. Get the tea cakes and Oolong ready for the garden party, she is ready to attend your next outdoor tea party! All the needed info without the flowery hard sell stuff–just the basics. I have used “German Doll Marks & Identification book by Jurgen & Marianne Cieslik for identification, and Linda Edward’s Book “Doll Values Antique to Modern as price reference. This is a 1234 shoulder head doll made by Alt Beck, Gottshalk in 1899. The marks are under the leather. 1234 10 – DEP. She has blue glass set eyes. I cannot check to see if they are original to the doll. Her ears are not pierced. She has a closed mouth. She wears a vintage brown mohair wig. I believe this is not original to the head. I say this because it looks like the leather was lifted at the shoulders. It wasn’t my replacement- quality of repair much better than I ever did. The main body doesn’t have repairs. The seams are great, no leaking. Her feet are also perfect. She has rivets at elbows, hips, knees. The arms are unusual. The forearms are bisque. The right one is good, the left one is missing the 5th finger. The upper arms are leather over wood. The leather has torn and is patched. The wood is carved in ball shoulder joints. The arms can be posed at the shoulders! There is a minute bit of sawdust leakage on the right. CLOTHES: She is missing her shoes. She is wearing velour stretch socks that are not fabric appropriate for doll age but the color is perfect. She has matching panties and chemise, probably made in the 80s or 90’s. The dress is a cream colored crepe with a lace overlay. It is a simple long A line style with a peach colored ribbon and lace decorative yoke. There is a matching belt that draws the dress in. It appears home made. Seams are not finished but the dress is very sturdy. The bonnet has wired rim in front to keep the shape. Fabric is a cream silk. There are silk flowers on the left side. The ties are pale peach. The stand will be included if desired. Packing is with clean and washed materials that otherwise would have wound up in the recycling bin.
