Antique German signed Simon & Halbig / K&R Star doll, 18 tall, with bisque head and composition jointed body. She’s gorgeous, with a brunette human hair wig, original pate, and handmade antique dress; she has vintage underclothes, socks, and leather shoes, and her dress is accented with tiny rhinestones; her fixed glass eyes are a green-ish, and they almost match her dress, which is an odd color to describe–kind of light blue, but slightly pale green-ish and slightly gray also; it is cotton/linen, trimmed with handmade cream-colored lace and features mutton-type sleeves and an Empire-style waist–the skirt portion balloons out nicely. This doll is in overall good, antique condition, with doll and clothing showing expected wear commensurate with the age; her compo body shows peeling/cracked paint (it looks as if it was re-painted at one time, but long ago) but her stringing is okay; her dress shows wear and is a bit small for her but does fasten (I had a bit of a time getting her re-dressed); she has no cracks/breaks to bisque head, her pate and wig are un-attached and the wig was held on by a small piece of tape and may need a bit of re-styling; her eyes and face paint look great–please see all photos. All-in-all, she’s truly a beautiful doll, with a one-of-kind dress, and she displays prettily, with a lovely face. My usual basic description with all the needed details, none of the flowery sales pitch stuff. She was first manufactured in 1889. She can sit or stand well. She does not have pierced ears. She has an antique brown human hair wig. Her mouth is open with 4 teeth. The lips are perfect. Her brown sleep eyes are antique glass & I believe original to the head. I don’t know if this is original to the head, probably not. The body tightly strung. It is stamped Germany 6. It has the usual scuffs and markings. Finger 3 & 4 on left hand appear to have been glued back on. There is cosmetic blemish on the left breast. There is minor chipping around the neckline. The dress is sleeveless. The bodice is a very smooth cream colored material that I thinks is silk. It closes with 3 snaps in the back. This extends down the length of the dress. It has a fold on the inside that looks like it could have been used to lengthen or shorten the dress as needed. Then there is the waist band to with a pleated skirt is attached. It is sewn onto the under cream colored part. Then underneath the pleated skirt is a stiff tube extension. It is sewn onto the cream material. It has a very stiff buckram type material for a lining. The jacket is lined with that same stiff material. It is fitted, pleats in the front. The bottom of the jacket and sleeves is a matching striped material. An antique lace yoke is on front with black netting folded densely to finish the neckline. The hat is matching purple fabric and trim, and the lace crown appears to be made from the same lace as the yoke. The crown also has a circle of the buckram type material to give it a little more structure. This outfit is in excellent condition although there is some rust staining on the inside lining of the jacket. She doesn’t have a slip but she has antique panties and cotton socks. She is wearing antique leather boots. The right one is missing 3 buttons one of which is inside the toe, waiting to be sewn on. The boots don’t fit the calves well–I had left the 2 top ones undone. Please look closely at all pictures. They are part of the description. NOTE THAT THIS IS A HEAVY DOLL. WITHOUT PACKAGING OR CLOTHES SHE WEIGHS ABOUT 5 POUNDS. I cannot combine this with wigs or straw flowers. Many of these have been put together with parts bought separately over years. I describe to the best of my ability. FOR PACKING I USE CLEAN PLASTICS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED, NOT NEW PACKING MATERIALS. THE BOX/PACKING MAY NOT LOOK PRETTY BUT SECURE. She has an antique brown human hair wig. Her mouth is open with 4 teeth. The lips are perfect. Tiny paint rubs are present on both cheeks. Her brown sleep eyes are antique glass but not original to the head. There is a miniscule chip on the right upper eyelid, taking out the base of one eyelash. There is a line showing up on the back lit photo on the back of the head. I think this is a manufacturing flaw, not a hairline crack. I have included other photos, inside and out of this area. I don’t believe it is a repair. I can feel the line that is seen as a raised area of the bisque. I don’t see any other signs of repair. The “n” in Germany is still there even though this mark goes through it. The entire word is barely visible. All the markings are relatively faint, suggesting the mold was old and had been used many times. Please look at photos and decide for yourself. If someone more expertise can comment, I would appreciate it. S 12 H 1009. The body tightly strung, fingers intact, not repaired. It is not stamped. It has the usual scuffs and markings. It is not original to the head. There is a minimal amount of chipping on the left heel. I don’t know how old the fabric is but the dress itself is not an antique. It is well made and in perfect condition. She is wearing a peach colored silk 2 piece outfit. The silk has a paisley print on it. The dress is simple sleeveless drop waist with pleated skirt. Lace trims the collar. There are 3 mother of pearl buttons. It is not lined. The jacket is buttoned down the back. Antique style lace is across the bottom. There is an embroidered insert into the V front, ending in a big bow. She has reproduction cotton socks, reproduction leather shoes, satin modern panties and an antique slip. She is wearing a bonnet that works well, although not part of the original outfit. She has reproduction cotton socks, and faux leather shoes. Her panties are vintage satin. She does not have a slip.
