This is a terrific, historical antique German bangle charm bracelet chock full of c. 1900 charms, all original to the bracelet. There are 17 charms attached including a jumping jack jester charm with a pull chain to move the arms and legs, a. Soldier charm with a movable arm that salutes when you pull the lever, a two-sided man-in-the-moon charm with a sad face to one side, and happy face to the other, some love tokens including one with enameled forget-me-not flowers (note: “Tante” means “Aunt, ” and “Onkel” means “Uncle”). A stanhope charm with an image of German emperor Wilhelm Friedrich Ludwig who reigned from 1891 until his death in 1888, a wonderful two-sided jester charm with hands clenching the sides of the charm, and many more. The bangle bracelet closes with a secure tongue and groove latch, and opens from a hinge at the opposite end. These bracelets are wonderful to wear due to the ease of opening them (no fussing with tiny spring ring clasps). It measures 2 and 5/16 inches by 1 and 7/8 inches (inside measurement). It fits my 6 and 1/4 inch wrist comfortably. The bracelet has a few minor dings, otherwise in good condition. There are 15 loops on the bracelet for hanging charms. There is a safety chain attached to the bracelet. Aside from some heavy tarnishing, most of the charms are are in good condition for the age. Most of the charms except the man-in-the-moon charm (silver-plated) and the stanhope charm (brass) are made of Continental silver at least. The bracelet is made of. The stanhope image is degraded, although you can see the image of Ludwig and his birth date. You squeeze his chest and it causes him to bang the cymbals together. One cymbals is a replacement and not original (see pictures). His legs are made from wood and so are his arms. His silk clothes are unfortunately in a tatty state, but his felt hat is in a nice condition. There is no maker’s name but only the word GERMANY and 5/0 written on the back of the head. Measures approx 38cm tall from his feet to the tip of his hat. Please zoom in and study the pictures as they give an accurate description of the item. I have not take it apart to see the internal workings of it or attempted to fix or clean it, so I can not give any information about this. I have given my honest opinion about the item. Polish and German family. I will be listing more from this families estate. I love these strange face ornaments, hard to say if the intentions were to be a clown, jester, or joker or just a whimsical face. The stem is missing a bit of glass, can’t tell if its damage or from the manufacturing. This ornament measures 2 1/2 tall.
