This is a very rare set of Peach and GoldLustreware made in Germany around 1900. It is even more stunning in person. According to an expert, these types of sets, variations were made for about 50 years and used primarily because small packages of dry goods were not available until into the 1900s. It was inconvenient to open a 50lb bag of flour whenever a cup was needed, so small amounts were stored on a kitchen shelf or in a cabinet. Set includes the following: 5 Large cannisters are 8 tall: Tea, Oatmeal, Sugar, Coffee, Rice. 2 Decanters are 9 tall: Oil, Vinegar. 6 Small cannisters are 4 3/4 tall: Nutmeg, Cloves, Allspice, Ginger, Pepper, Cinnamon. Salt is 6 3/4 tall. Set is missing one large container, probably flour. Extra lid (cracked) is included. Vinegar decanter has a small bubble defect that does not penetrate the container. This gorgeous lusterware canister set is in very nice condition with few flaws. From researching the maker’s mark, it appears as though these are from the early 20th century (1910-30) although not a lot is known about this particular maker. There are 10 canisters and a salt wall mount. The coloring is still quite vibrant and the has retained most of its gold color outline and labeling. Set has 20 pieces including lids (missing one large lid). Tall canisters are approx 9 1/2′ with lid and small canisters are approx 5 with lid. There are two inside lip chips one on the tea canister and one on the pepper as shown in gallery. Several have a rust color stain on the bottom (as shown in gallery) that I have not tried to clean. There appear no other issues (cracks, chips, etc) then what I have mentioned although they are previously used so general wear should be expected. This is a vintage/second hand item and general use and wear should be expected.
