German Hand Painted Bisque Porcelain Baby in Sling Hanging Ornament White Blue Beige. Sweet little all bisque swinger baby in a blue blanket with red bow made in Germany circa 1880. Two little feet are sticking out and the baby has a happy smile on its face. The detailing on the hand painted face is exquisite. Really great quality, early solid bisque and heavy. What makes this little swinger baby figure particularly unique is the scale piece attached at the top. Most surviving swinger babies are missing this piece, which adds incredible context to how these would have originally looked. The swinger babies are being weighed! On top of the scale are the remnants of the original ribbon as well. The top of the blanket has a hole for string or wire (in this case) to be looped into and hung from the scale piece. Then it was intended to be hung from a lamp or other item. Please look at the close up of the baby’s head, where is a small piece that may have broken off and was reapplied. It is firmly attached. Paint on red bow is a little rubbed off. There seems to be some sort of hard wax or other material at the top of the blanket. It is also firmly attached. The baby figure size is 3″ high by 3″ wide. Adding the scale piece makes it about 5 inches tall.
