Step back in time with this beautiful mid-19th century German china head doll, measuring approximately 23 inches tall. She features a classic “Flat Top” / “Covered Wagon” hairstyle, hand-painted blue eyes, delicate single-stroke brows, rosy cheeks, and coral lips. Her china shoulder plate is unmarked, typical of early German makers such as Hertwig & Co. The stitched cloth body has divided legs and leather lower limbs with boots, showing some gentle age wear consistent with the period. She is elegantly dressed in a golden silk-blend gown, lace-trimmed cape, and detailed corset, with layered petticoats and underskirt beneath. Her clothing evokes the charm and refinement of the Victorian era. Excellent for age with some expected wear to clothing. A very attractive and strong sounding violin made by a skilled Markneukirchen workshop, c. The two-piece maple back is of narrow to medium curl descending from left to right. The two-piece spruce table is of even fine grain with beautiful antiquing. The varnish is a shaded reddish brown color over golden orange ground. Length of Back: 356 mm. Comes with a basic hard shell case with all latches functioning. No open cracks or seams. Recently went over by professional luthier.

This very early German has a incised number on the back of her head but I cannot make it out as it is quite faint. It looks like 400 but not sure. She has a closed mouth with just a tiny bit of white separating her lips. Please peruse all of the photos as they are a huge part of my description. I try to take really close up photos so that you have a clear understanding of what you are seeing and reading. She stands 14 tall and has a beautiful face with high quality bisque. Her eyes are the early rayed ones with that spiral look. Some one added a piece of what looks to be part of a pate in order to make her head flat? I just left it there. Her body is well strung and she can hold a pose. Her head is perfect. There are a couple of chips, scrapes, dark marks on her early body that come with age. She comes dressed in a fabulous French looking two piece dress ensemble. It is a bit too small and I had a time getting it off of her and cannot get the jacket over her hands. It is a fully lined beautiful lace and silk with the jacket fully lined. Not sure how anyone could get it over her hands, I have attempted and gotten one hand in but not the other. Rather than ruin the jacket her arms or both or cut it, I will leave it up to whomever buys her. She wears ANTIQUE ALART shoes t hat are in original amazing shape with bows and fasteners in tact. Looks like she has no marks. The doll is in great condition. Her bisque is free of damage, it is clean with well preserved painting. The paint on the eyelids is cracked. Sleepy eyes open and close smoothly. The pate is original and is glued to the head. It looks like a plaster pate, but we are not sure. The hair of the doll is in worn condition. The body looks great. Besides one small imperfection on the back there are no issues to the body. Bisque lower arms are in overall good condition. There is a chip to the fingers on the back of the right hand. The doll is wearing original clothes. The 3-piece underwear shows signs of wear. The dress in good condition with possibly some minor wear. The hat is included. The doll is also coming with modern tights, she has no shoes. Please refer to the pictures for more details. No stand is included.
