I’m a violinist with over 50 years experience playing. My father was a violinist with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, and later with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra in Toledo Ohio for over 40 years. He was the owner of, and I was recipient of his authentic 1790 Jais violin when he passed away 21 years ago. As nice as that violin was, this violin has it beat by far, both in beauty and in sound quality. Although the label cannot be authenticated and we do not believe this to be a Jais violin, it is from the same time and region. Instrument: 4/4 Full-Size Violin / Fiddle. Estimated Origin: Saxon (Vogtland / Markneukirchen) or Bohemian Regional School. Estimated Era: Mid 19th Century c. Label: facsimile label Jais. Construction Style: Traditional “Built-on-the-Back” (BOB) method (No lower or upper corner blocks). Package Inclusions: High-Quality Case, New Premium Set Up, new bow, and Eudoxa Strings. Premium “Ready-To-Play” Luthier Setup. Brand New Bridge: Custom-carved and perfectly fit maple bridge optimized for tone, projection, and string clearance. Premium Fitting Set: old but beautifully matching pegs in great condition, coordinating chinrest, and matching tailpiece for smooth, stable tuning and optimal comfort. These traditional, hand-polished German sheep-gut core strings perfectly complement the naturally warm, complex historical voice of this old instrument. Carbon Fiber Violin Bow: Comes with a genuine, high-quality carbon fiber bow. This is a genuine, beautifully crafted 19th century European violin, most likely originating from the historic Saxon or Bohemian lutherie traditions. Unlike modern factory trade instruments, this violin is an authentic bench-made antique displaying significant age and remarkable structural character. Possessing a beautifully gorgeous dark deep lower register and a brilliant upper register responsive ringing tone! A video will be uploaded in the next week. Traditional Built-on-the-Back Construction: Built freehand without an internal mold, the C-bout ribs meet the upper and lower ribs in a distinct, flush miter pushed cleanly right to the edge of the wood corners. Because of this historical regional geometry, the instrument was intentionally constructed completely without internal upper or lower corner blocks. The scroll appears to be original as far as we can ascertain to the instrument and features a possible neck graft visible through the pegbox cheek. The neck graft has NOT been confirmed but after inspecting the violin, we believe it could be a real graft. There is an old heel repair from on the heel is broken which includes a doll that extends underneath the fingerboard into the heel of the violin and is structurally sound. One-Piece / Reinforced Lower Rib: The flamed maple bottom rib wraps continuously around the endpin block, a classic hallmark of early Germanic craftsmanship. Premium Tonewoods & Varnish: Features a tight, straight-grained spruce top and a highly attractive, deeply flamed maple back plate. The f-holes are widely spaced with an upright, prominent posture typical of the era. Neck angle is commensurate with the lower bridge. We did not want to tamper with anything since the sound is so wonderful! A gorgeous violin for solo work, Orchestral work or chamber music! Condition Report & Structural Health. This instrument has been heavily played, respected, and well-maintained over its long life. It is structurally stable and structurally sound. Top Plate Repairs: There are 4 historical cracks on the top spruce plate. All 4 have been professionally repaired, leveled perfectly smooth, and cleated from the inside. The repairs are tightly closed, stable, and completely flush to the touch. Critical Safety Zones: Most importantly, there are absolutely no soundpost cracks and no bass bar cracks on either the top or back plates. General Wear: The instrument exhibits natural, honest cosmetic wear, including micro-crater texture on the back plate from clothing friction, minor varnish chips, and edge wear consistent with an old violin. Offered here is a very attractive antique full-size violin that appears to date from approximately the late 19th to early 20th century, Markneukirchen work most likely. The violin bears an old, heavily aged Antonius Stradivarius-style label inside. The label is so worn that it is difficult to see with the camera but I have provided some pictures of it. The instrument has a particularly attractive one-piece figured maple back, lightly figured maple ribs and a nicely flamed neck. The varnish is a warm amber/reddish-brown with considerable character and natural-looking age and wear. The workmanship and materials appear noticeably better than those found on many inexpensive factory-made Stradivarius copies. There also appears to be evidence of an old neck graft at the pegbox, although I have not had the graft professionally authenticated and therefore make no definite claim regarding it. The violin may be German, Bohemian, or otherwise Central European in origin. Structurally, the violin is remarkably clean for an instrument of apparent age. I have found no top or back cracks, open seams, or major structural damage. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. I fitted the violin with a bridge and basic steel strings to evaluate it. Even when simply plucked, the instrument is very resonant with strong sustain and noticeable body vibration. The violin will come with a new set of dominant strings. Check back for a video that is coming in the next few weeks. This is an intriguing old violin with beautiful wood, attractive oil varnish, a one-piece back, an unusually aged interior label, and possible evidence of an older neck graft. Additional measurements, photographs, and playing observations may be added as I continue examining and setting up the instrument. Will make a great violin for an advancing player or professional!

Beautiful older full-size 4/4 German violin, made in the traditional Antonius Stradivarius style and retaining its original-style interior label marked “Antonius Stradivarius” and Made in Germany. The violin has a wonderful deep reddish-brown finish with attractive natural age, patina and character throughout. It features a spruce top, traditional purfling, ebony-style fingerboard and fittings, and a beautifully carved scroll. Included is the old fitted hard case shown in the photographs, with green velvet interior, bright green protective ribbons, aged hardware and a wonderfully authentic vintage appearance. The case itself shows considerable age and wear, including wear to the exterior, interior, hardware and handle. The violin is in vintage used condition with scratches, finish wear, marks, scuffs and other age-related imperfections. Full-size violin, dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century. This instrument is full of historical character and unique artistic details, making it an incredible project piece for violin makers, restorers, or collectors. Carved Lion Head Scroll. Instead of a traditional scroll, the neck features a beautifully hand-carved lion’s head with a detailed mane and open jaws, typical of historic German (Markneukirchen / Klingenthal) craftsmanship. The back plate showcases a stunning, highly detailed carved/inlaid geometric. Fleur-de-lis / Celtic knot pattern. Set against a beautiful tiger-flame maple wood backdrop. Comes inside its original old-world black wooden “coffin” style case lined with rich red felt cloth. Full-size Acoustic Violin / Fiddle. Late 1800s – Early 1900s. Germany / Central Europe. Original wood coffin case (comes with a small bag of loose hardware/hinge parts). This is an old violin. There are several repaired cracks on the top. They seem to be solid. The bridge, neck nut, bottom nut etc are all there, they just need to be attached. The sound post needs to be reset. There are two bows. The one on the left is a Knoll bow. I couldn’t find a name on the other bow. Of course there is a Strad label.

This beautiful antique violin is a Stradivarius model copy, likely crafted in the late 1800s to early 1900s in the Markneukirchen (Germany) or Schönbach (Czech Republic) region – both known for producing quality workshop violins with excellent craftsmanship.
