As the name suggests, these were porcelain babies that lived on top of pianos. During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, every well-appointed parlor had a piano. And every respectable piano wore a fancy shawl, or piano drapery. Were often works of art in themselves: embroidered silk or woven tapestries with. Tassels or handmade lace edging. Piano babies sat on top of the shawl. Ensuring that the shawl did. Not slide off the piano, because. A proper piano must never drop its shawl..
