Large Antique Vintage Chocolate Metal Mold of Bunny Rabbit Couple. Large chocolate mold measuring 8″ x 8″ at widest points. This mold has beautiful movement, fluidity, shape and cut. Some of the tinning is thin showing the copper underneath which dates it to around 1830 – 1910 when chocolate molds where first made with copper which was the only metal material soft enough to stamp at the time (according to Dad’s Follies). This lovely old mold shows the fine patina that only comes with age. There are smaller versions of this mold, cut differently which are known to be Eppelsheimer molds. Makers mark is not visible. Perfect for your collection, to give as a very special gift or use for chalkeware /paper mache crafting. During WWII many chocolate factories were either forced to shut down or were bombed, leaving very little standing. In order to save these articles of history some molds were buried so as not to be melted down for the use of their metal content, or were lost to the ravages of war. Please see photos which depict the condition of the mold which are your main point of reference for condition which are consistent with their age and prior use.
