Old Vintage Antique 4/4 German “Stradiuarius” violin ca. For sale is a full sized early 20th c. German Stradivarius copy shop violin in playing condition. Occasionally, as in this case, I will list one that is set up and in playing condition. Workmanship on this shop violin is good. This German violin is labeled “Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonensis / Faciebat Anno 1723″ with the 23 in pen (see pics) and the stylized AS in a circle to the right. This is a mid-grade shop violin made ca. 1910 with genuine purfling, a dramatically shaded finish with a spirit varnish that is in good condition except where some has rubbed off. Presently it has a dark, resonant sound. Many European shop violins like this one were imported into North America in the period from roughly 1880 until WW1. Most were for students and orchestral violinists. In the hundred-plus years since, the wood has aged giving them a sound that modern violins, other things equal, cannot match. The two-piece back measures 362 mm long; overall length of the violin is 23 1/4. The two-piece top is narrow-grained. Neck joint, fingerboard, and peg box are solid (see pics).
