Grandpa don’s mostly movados. Vintage Antique Signed German Wall Plaque of the Old 3-Monkey Adage of “See, Hear, & Speak No Evil”. This Wall Plaque is believed to be from the Early-20th Century – (explanation below) The Plaque has the words encribed “H oren”, “Jien”, and “Jivygen” these words translate to “Hear”, “See”, and “Speak” with each monkey depicting the word mentioned e. The monkey with the word “Horen” enscribed next to it has his/her hands covering it’s ears; the monkey with the word “Jien” enscribed above his/her head is covering it’s eyes; and, the third monkey with the word “Jivygen” has his/her hands surrounding it’s mouth as though it is calling out to someone. I do not believe this to be the original piece but a cast reproduction – the material is too hard to be a plaster – I would guess it to be some type of resin base. Having said this, I have never seen a piece like it and find the art work to be quite exquisite and detailed. The plaque measures 7.5″ x 6″x 1.75. The initials “VD” are embedded in the right hand bottom side of this piece. I suspect VD is the sclupter of this piece. I date this piece early-20th Century before WWII – I have personally owned it since the mid 1970s – it could be older but not dated, perhaps someone reading this has a better idea of a specific date range. This piece is in excellent condition. Aesthetically Pleasing without any chips, discoloration or blemishes of any kind – it has been hanging in my study (actually three studies) for the past 55 +- years. As you may have already deduced, I primarily sell watches so this template is designed for watches, please. Disregard any descriptive material about watches that I may have failed to remove. Keep in mind, light scratching is indicative to stainless steel – and can even be seen on a new watch when using a jeweler’s loop. If you are looking for it, you will see it. Using a jeweler’s loop and using the naked eye give two completely different visualizations. For example, deep scratches on the caseback are usually caused by an individual attempting to change a battery without the proper tools or experience. Although lightened through reconditioning, excising these completely could compromise the integrity of the case. A condition just slightly below a four plus. Could easily pass as a new watch. Rest assured, I will never sell you a reconditioned watch as a new, unworn watch.
