Antique German Pewter-Mounted Porcelain Pitcher w/ Deutsche Blumen Floral Decoration, Probably mid 1800s. Scarce Antique German Pewter-Mounted Porcelain Pitcher w/ Hand Painted Floral Decoration, probably mid 1800’s. This milk or cream pitcher has a pewter mounted lid and base which protects the porcelain body. The lower section of the porcelain has a subtle vertical relief moulded ribbing. The brilliantly colored floral decoration consists of 2 larger bouquets with smaller sprays scattered about the body. The piece is unsigned but has an incised numeral 3, probably a workshop mark. The condition, including the pewter mounts is excellent. An unusual and attractive survival, this piece may have been made to appeal to the newly emerging middle class in Europe in this time period, as well as farmers and rural populations. Dimensions: 6-1/8″ high, 4-3/8″ max. Width, 2-3/4 base diameter. No chips, cracks, discoloration or repairs. Very minor wear to overglaze decoration commensurate with age and use.
