Antique 14.5 FRENCH TRADE Belton BRU- look 116 Circa mid- late 1800s with Closed Mouth. Mint condition and RARE. She is near mint condition (please see description below and all 12 pictures) and IS VERY RARE. What a wonderful cabinet sized doll on a fully jointed Sonneberg (see the pictures) composition and wood body. She is also guaranteed to be on her original antique Sonneberg doll body. She was made in Germany circa the mid to late 1800s. PLEASE SEE PICTURES TO GET FULL IDEA OF THIS WONDERFUL DOLL. 14.5 tall which is typical for most Belton dolls. The head of a Belton style by Kathy Libraty. However, this doll has a typical opening on top of the head instead of a nearly dome shaped enclosed heads I have with my other Belton dolls. But I defer to Kathy Libratys expertise. She has a cardboard pate and is mounted on a fully jointed Sonneberg composition and wood 9 ball-jointed body (typical of this type of doll) with straight wrists and ankles. The wooden joints on the doll are larger and depict the Sonneberg type. It is the angelic expression on the face of this doll which makes her desirable. She has the look of a BRU face. This includes large almond-shaped medium blue spiral paperweight glass eyes that are fixed, set slightly a part to achieve that awe-filled, child-like gaze. The eyes are expertly placed and are symmetric from side to side. She has a nice pale complexion and cute dolly features. She has expert and delicate blushing of the cheeks in a light pinky-peach shade for her cheeks, inner eyes, and nostrils. With painted upper and lower lashes and thick feathered eyebrows reminiscent of the French style. Her molded open-closed mouth with pink blushed lips and darker accented outline with a white area between the lips is typical for a French look and has the appearance as if she is going to speak. She is incredibly beautiful. She was made in Germany for the French marketsome as early as the 1850s. She also has pierced ears without earrings. She is on her original 9 ball-jointed wood composition body has a shape depicting an older child or young womans body. Just look at that rounded tummy of hers- depicting that she comes from a more wealthy family. Vintage brown French human hair wig with straight bangs and curls. With a label inside of 100% Chevoux, naturels, Made in France. There is previous glue and old piece of cardboard on the inside mesh. She has an antique cardboard pate (not sure if original). Markings incised at the back of the neck. She is securely strung. Her MATCHING ALL coordinated and designer made dress is based on an antique pattern and her underwear are antique. All are in excellent condition, are well-constructed, typifies a French doll, and includes. Newer dusty pink silk Bebe-style dress, with an off white lace trim and overlay, with flowers on the waist. The drop waist dress has two rows of box pleats to form the skirt with five (5) pink seed pearl button closure in the back. This off-white lace is used to adorn the end of each sleeve with a matching smaller lace at the neck and bottom of the bodice. A newer lighter pink matching bonnet with vintage materials that include an off-white lace that is generously pleated ALL along the top with a large cream silk bow and a smaller silk blue bow. Inside the bonnet, there is an encased wire to help mold the bonnet to the head. Antique white cotton full slip with a broderie anglasie (an open embroidery with floral pattern on a finer white cotton) and lace trim to the skirt, with a subtle feather stitching to the armholes and collar, and a two (2) tiny mother-of-pearl button and hook-and-eye closure. Three small (5mm grey smudges) are found but completely intact. Antique sheer cotton pantelettes/ bloomers with lace trim along the bottom. These extend just above the knee and have a one snap closure. Antique light ecru cotton knit stockings with maroon stripes across the top and are mid thigh-high. Reminiscent of the stockings I have on one of my Jumeau dolls. Newer pink silk Mary Jane shoes with silk rosette adornments and clear button closure. She has exceptional quality very pale bisque with expert and delicate painting of features, pleasant coloring, crisp modeling, lovely large eyes that are aligned nicely in the head, and a sweet expression. She has perfect bisque head that is free of hairlines, cracks, or restoration. HER BISQUE IS FLAWLESS/ PERFECT. There is a slight smudge on her right eyebrow only (see the first picture that is the close up of the face). She is still on her original composition 9 ball-jointed body. The condition issues of the body are very good condition with some minor old paint touch up here and there and a tiny chip or two to the fingers and toes but are not missing or repaired. The costume is great, and presents well, in very good condition. Small 5 mm grease stain right back shoulder (picture 3), one small hole on one (1) stocking close to the top. Overall this girl is truly exceptional! This doll is in such excellent shape considering her age. Linda Edwards DOLL VALUES 12.
