During WWI, German citizens were asked to give their gold jewelry and other items to aid the war effort; in return, a citizen would get this ring to mark their donation. Contains two German sentences: “Dem alten Vaterland die Treue zu Beweisen, ” and “Gab ich in Schwerer Zeit Ihm Gold fur dieses Eisen, ” which translates to “In this difficult time I gave gold for this iron, ” and For this fatherland, the true test. An iron cross accents the top of the ring face. Polished band for comfortable wear. Damage : Age appropriate wear. There is a mark from a past sizing visible on the band, which does not affect wear. Tarnish on the sterling silver can be removed with a buffing, if desired. The price has been reduced to reflect this. This listing is for the item only.
