The plate illustrations are beautiful and I’d love to anyone interested more of them!! Even if this little treasure was missing its covers it would still be worth owning for the plates alone. They are totally mind blowing in precise detail with the finest of etched lines. A big problem I have is deciphering the antique calligraphy writing. There are many letters I simply can’t tell what they are. So, please look at my photos and ask for more if there is anything u need to see. Description: For Sale is a Hardbound Collection of {50} Volumes from 1876 of “Die Gartenlaube Illustriertes Familienblatt” by Ernst Keil. This Translates to The Garden Arbor Illustrated Journal and is 882 Pages Long. Basically these are Weekly issued German Magazine Back Issues which have been bound together in a Hardcover Book. There are AMAZING Plate Illustrations, Daily Life Stories and German History. It was truly Germany’s First Crossover from a Newspaper to a Magazine. This Book measures 12 1/2″T x 10″W x 2 1/2D and Weighs 6.7 Pounds. Ernst Victor Keil was a German bookseller, journalist, editor and publisher. His early publications promoted liberal views and satirized famous politicians leading up to the German revolutions of 1848-49. Born : December 6, 1816, Bad Langensalza. Died : March 23, 1878, Leipzig. Condition: On a scale of 1 – 10 (Ten being New in Package Only), I can confidently grade this item’s condition to be a solid 6. Overall and Especially for being over 140 Years Old, this Rare Collectible Book is in ” Fair – Good” Condiiton. This book is 100% Complete but does have some loose pages in the very beginning {See Photo#7}. About 4-5 pages max are separated from the binding. The pages have uniformly discolored and there is some sporadic brittleness mainly to the edges. Some of those page edges have tiny tears and some of those tears have been discreetly taped with invisible tape to prevent them from getting bigger. Approximately in 5 spots. This book like many antique books should be handled gently because honestly, each time it is opened it is likely a little piece may break away if not handled with respect. The paper used originally was not of the highest quality such as the paper used in newspapers. So, it is completely normal that for being as old as it is, there is going to be some wear and dryness. The Exterior Covers also have much wear but are still attached quite well fortunately. My photos are an accurate depiction of this item’s TRUE Condition. I think that is only fair.
