Antique Bisque German Doll 18 Ohlhaver 151 Original Body Eyes Perfect Hands
All the needed info without the flowery hard sell stuff–just the basics. I have used “German Doll Marks & Identification book by Jurgen & Marianne Cieslik for identification, and Linda Edward’s Book “Doll Values Antique to Modern as price reference. This is a 18 shoulderhead made by George Ohlhaver beginning around 1920. It is mold # 151. As always, check pictures closely, ask if you need more. This is an undamaged head manufactured by George Ohlhaver. There are no hairline cracks. She has her original blue sleep eyes with eyelashes. I don’t know if these are original to the doll. They look too perfect. If they are a more modern addition they are well done. Her ears are not pierced. She has an open mouth with 4 teeth. There is residual glue from a previous wig. The current wig is blonde, human hair in ringlets. It really should be washed and reset but I don’t have the skills to do that. At the top there is a tiny mark that looks like a lightening bolt. The Ohlhaver mark which is a pyramid, sun over an eye (see pics). The body is oilskin, ie a fabric base with paint/glaze over it. It is usually used in shoes. It is in very good condition. There is a slight tear on the mid back where I peeled it back to see the marks. The hips and elbows are riveted. There is leather repairs to right upper arm and elbow. The fingers are slender, perfect condition. The body does not leak. She does have some minor scuffing. Interesting detail, if one arm is moved, the other one moves with it. She is wearing older probably home made light blue taffeta 2 piece dress. I don’t know the age. It is well made but partially unfinished. The skirt has lace appliques on the bottom. The waist band has a strip of blue velvet, and the end has an antique silk flower. It will have to be slip stitched closed (or put snap on) The jacket is lined. Matching lace appliques are on the sleeves. Lace is on the bottom of the sleeves. On one side it has pulled away from the sleeve end but it is not torn so it can be easily sewn back in place. The right back is unfinished raw edge. This is covered by the finished left side. I had slipped stitched it closed to make a snug fit on the body. The neckline is finished. The bodice is is covered with a separate piece of antique lace, trimmed with the same material as the dress. This too will need to be slip stitched in place. Her bonnet matches the dress very well. It is handmade made from several layers of light blue tulle. It has antique silk flowers on the brim. There is a decorative stitch made with what appears to be old crochet thread. It ties with silk blue ribbon. She has black antique reproduction French style leather shoes. Her socks are antique. They fit the body so well I wouldn’t be surprised if they are original to the doll. There is tiny stitching in the back that I have no way of knowing for sure. The back near the ankle of one of them is opening. Her half slip appears to be made from 2 separate antique slips, joined at the waistline and closed with a waistband. She has antique underpants that do not match the slip. Both of these also need to be slip stitched closed. Her corset is gorgeous, could have been on an antique fashion doll. It was made rom a heavy silk brocade, with the floral patterns fussy cut to feature a big flower in each of the side panels. There are fake stays made of several thicknesses of fabric. Ornate lace decorates the top. The shoulder straps and the bottom are of lace with blue silk ribbon running through. There is a blue silk ribbon flower center front and several decorative mother of pearl buttons. It closes in back with mother of pearl buttons and thread loops. It is fully lined. It is made with a combination of hand and machine sewing. TELL ME PLEASE if you want the stand included. Many of these have been put together with parts bought separately over years. I describe to the best of my ability. Packing is with clean and washed materials that otherwise would have wound up in the recycling bin. It is not elegant but will keep the doll safe. FOR PACKING I USE CLEAN PLASTICS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED, NOT NEW PACKING MATERIALS. THE BOX/PACKING MAY NOT LOOK PRETTY BUT IT IS SECURE. THESE MATERIALS MAY BE PLASTIC MILK CARTONS, NEWSPAPERM EMPTY FOOD PACKAGES, ETC. THE HEAD IS WRAPPED IN EITHER NEW OR USED BUBBLE WRAP.
