Born 1756 Nuremberg, d. After 1792 Regensburg Germany. Third son and pupil of Leopold Widhalm. Buchstetter at Regensburg, whose business he took over in 1771. Early work closely modeled on Stainer with Italian influence. Fine craftsmanship with dark transparent red-brown varnish over a dark ground. Repair label by Willibald Kreuzinger. Dated 1905, later repair by his daughter Inge Kreuzinger in 1953. All former repairs were revised and reenforced in our workshop. T his beautiful violin shows no open cracks or open seams. The table is finely grained spruce and the 1-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. Like always the instrument has been completely checked by our luthier and our violin player on playability. It received new ebony ebony pegs, new ebony tailpiece & chinrest, a new bridge, new soundpost and new strings. These are new German silver wound steel core strings with good projection, easy to play while allowing rapid finger performance. We use these strings on mostly all of our violins to provide a comparison of the tonal qualities of each instrument in the videos. In any case a new owner should consider higher quality strings of own personal preference to enhance the full character of this violin! Good old German quality violin in immediate playing condition!
