Antique Concert Zither Signed M. Nebel & Bro NY German In Org. Case Vintage R77
Up for sale is a magnificent, museum-quality antique Alpine-style Concert Zither (Konzertzither). This exceptional turn-of-the-century instrument represents a beautiful piece of German-American musical history. It features a meticulously crafted wooden body, a fully fretted melody fingerboard with pearl position markers, and a wide array of accompaniment harmony strings. The soundhole is beautifully adorned with an intricate, vibrant floral decal rosette that remains in gorgeous condition. Historic Provenance:Visible through the soundhole is the original historic paper shop label from M. Manufacturers & Importers of Violins, Bows & Strings, located at 1535 Third Ave near 86th St. In New York City. The Nebel brothers were prominent German-born luthiers operating in Manhattan’s Yorkville neighborhood during the late 1890s and early 1900s. This label firmly roots the instrument’s provenance in the rich musical immigration history of New York. The lid hinges are not functioning, one is missing. It looks like there is a string missing, but I could imagine it would need new strings? For it age it’s an excellent condition, but please do refer to the pictures as there are signs of use and its age. This is a virtual estate sale held in northeast Florida of the collections of multiple generations from my family. The proceeds will be used to create a healthy home for my future family.
