Antique German Lion Head Violin with Carved Fleur-de-lis Back – Coffin Case Included. Up for sale is a truly remarkable and rare estate find – an antique. Full-size violin, dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century. This instrument is full of historical character and unique artistic details, making it an incredible project piece for violin makers, restorers, or collectors. Carved Lion Head Scroll. Instead of a traditional scroll, the neck features a beautifully hand-carved lion’s head with a detailed mane and open jaws, typical of historic German (Markneukirchen / Klingenthal) craftsmanship. The back plate showcases a stunning, highly detailed carved/inlaid geometric. Fleur-de-lis / Celtic knot pattern. Set against a beautiful tiger-flame maple wood backdrop. Comes inside its original old-world black wooden “coffin” style case lined with rich red felt cloth. Full-size Acoustic Violin / Fiddle. Late 1800s – Early 1900s. Germany / Central Europe. Original wood coffin case (comes with a small bag of loose hardware/hinge parts). The body is structurally solid on the front face but shows decades of honest patina, heavy varnish wear, scuffs, surface scratches, and ground-in dust from long-term storage. The strings are broken/loose. The tuning pegs and decorated tailpiece are included but the bridge is missing. The historic wooden coffin case is heavily weathered with edge scuffs and rust on metal elements. Some small hardware parts have come detached and are stored in the included plastic bag.
