A charming and visually cohesive set of six antique German pottery mugs, each decorated with a hand-painted figural portrait in a warm, old-world palette. Likely produced in Germany in the early twentieth century, these mugs reflect traditional folk and tavern imagery rather than regimented military or lidded beer stein styles. Each mug features a different character-men and women depicted in period dress-rendered with expressive faces and painterly detail. The forms are consistent across the set, with sturdy handles, gently flared rims, and a rich brown-to-cream glaze that gives them a distinctly rustic, Old World presence. Together, the group displays beautifully, whether styled on open shelving, in a bar or dining space, or as part of a European folk art collection. The mugs are unmarked aside from a small impressed or stamped base mark, likely indicating a regional pottery workshop rather than a large, named factory. This is common for German figural wares of the period and does not detract from their decorative or collectible appeal. Very good antique condition overall. All six mugs are structurally sound with no cracks or repairs observed. There is light rim and base wear, along with minor glaze variations and firing irregularities consistent with age and hand production. The hand-painted decoration remains vibrant and expressive. Any small imperfections are appropriate to the period and visible in the photographs. Decoration: Hand-painted figural portraits. Size: 4 1/2″ tall x 3.5″ diameter. Quantity: Set of six mugs. Maker: Unidentified German pottery workshop. Offered as a complete set. These mugs combine folk art charm with strong decorative impact and make an excellent addition to a rustic bar, European-inspired interior, or antique pottery collection.
