This is a vintage real leather (cow) briefcase from aprox the late 1940’s / 1950’s. This style has been made since the 1930’s. It had this same textured leather to look like an exotic reptile, alligator / crocodile skin but is made of all steer hide except the inside dividers are cardboard. The color is red with black paint or dye. It has an accordion shape so it can hold a lot of items. What dates this bag are the 2 deco style German metal closures/locks & the older metal zipper. Marked DBP, it means “Deutsches Bundespatent”, German federal patent. There are no dates or patents on this case just the locks. I can’t date it exactly because there are no labels of the maker. This originally had shoulder straps so you could wear it like a backpack. It still has the hooks & buckle so you can add new straps easily. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT ALLIGATOR LEATHER AS FAR AS I CAN TELL. IT IS REAL COW LEATHER WITH AN EMBOSSED SCALE DESIGN & PAINTED red & black. CONDITION: Better Than Excellent. No holes or stains. No damage or loose seams. Only normal age & storage wear. LOCKS STILL WORK very well & smoothly but the keys are not included. The metal has some normal dirt & age. There is a bit of all over dust from storage even though I gently polished it up with clean natural leather polish. The only real flaw is to the inside flap (see photo) it had nail polish on the inside flap so I had it removed. It can still be polished & cleaned to improve the left over spot. The leather itself is not damaged. It’s missing the shoulder straps it had originally. LABEL: Metal is marked DBP, it means “Deutsches Bundespatent”, German federal patent. SIZE: 16″ WIDE X 13″ TALL. TIP: It’s best to lay a clothing item you have now, that fits, down flat & measure across then compare inches to be sure it will fit. You need to be a bit smaller than the fabric to be comfortable. Please note my items have no bad odors but I use a natural potpourri of cedar, lavender etc to repel moths. Sensitive people might be able to smell this. It is NOT perfume. I do not have pet hair anywhere near my items & there’s no smoking here at all. I attach my own stock tags to all of my items that are right in front. Please check to make sure I sent the correct item. Do not remove tags until you make sure everything is okay. Once tags are removed you can not return it no matter what.
